Kurobe strike helps Urawa down Bayern 1 August 2006
SAITAMA, Japan: A late Teruaki Kurobe strike helped J-League outfit Urawa Reds defeat Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich 1-0 in a friendly on Monday.
Shinji Ono went close early with a left-footed curler from the edge of the box but Bayern slowly found their rhythm and pegged Urawa back.
Kurobe netted the winner with a close-range header three minutes from time.
Urawa coach Guido Buchwald declared his satisfaction with the win. “I think we showed (through this match) that there is a good league and good teams in Japan as this match was telecast live in Europe. I am satisfied with this win against the European powerhouse,” said Buchwald, whose team is currently challenging Kawasaki Frontale for the J-League top position.
The 28-year-old Kurobe, normally a second-choice striker, signaled his intention to make a similar contribution to Urawa’s title charge. “I am happy with the positive result. We could play against Bayern on an equal mental footing. Now I want to score more goals for Urawa in the J-League," said the man.
Urawa’s next game is against FC Tokyo on August 12. ttp://www.the-afc.com/english/media/default.asp?mnsection=media§ion=newsDetails&newsID=6620
